DIY CHRISTMAS DECOR: YARD-FRIENDLY ORNAMENTS

Prepare yourself for another post in our Crafty Chaos series....

If you are looking for a super easy, quick, and inexpensive way to give your yard some Christmas cheer, then listen up! All you need are some cheap ornaments, rubber bands, and a few trees or bushes. We picked up 12-packs of ornaments at Dollar Tree (Saratoga Springs, UT location), and used rubber bands--which are far more versatile, tree-friendly, and weather-proof than wire hooks--to hang them on trees in our yard. This simple DIY decor idea did not take much time and only cost a few dollars, but it made a BIG difference!!

Check out this cute tree! The ornaments give it so much color and character.

And here's more of a want-to-be-a-bush tree, which looks equally festive....

Oh, and of course, we have to show you our darling Charlie Brown tree!!

I know, I know--you are blown away by how cute and simple this project is, but you're not sure how we hung the ornaments with rubber bands. Well, don't worry, we will show you how! It is so easy! Even our puppy, Shadow, can do it (just don't ask him to prove it).

First, "thread" a thin rubber band through the hole (that the wire hook would normally go through).

Then, stick one end of the rubber band through the "bunny ear" in the other side, and pull it through until you have a nice knot!

And that's it! Then, you can hang up your ornaments on trees and not be so worried that the wind will knock them off! YAY for a yard-friendly DIY solution for hanging ornaments! Although I'm not sure how well the ornaments themselves will hold up through our Utah winter storms. I wonder if we'll be able to reuse the same ornaments each year, or if we will have to repurchase ornaments next year (which is not so bad, considering we can do it for less than $5, thanks to Dollar Tree). We will have to update you on that later, but if any of you have hung ornaments outdoors before, we would love to hear your experience, too!!

Thanks for reading! We hope you had a great Thanksgiving, and have fun preparing for Christmas! Happy decorating!
