FAIRY TALE HALLOWEEN COSTUMES: DIY NO-SEW TULLE CAPE (RED RIDING HOOD)

Prepare yourself for another post in our Crafty Chaos series....

If you have been following our Halloween series, then you already know that Cami is going to be Little Red Riding Hood for Halloween! She wants to put a fun spin on what might first come to your head when you think of Little Red Riding Hood, so we decided to come up with a fun, whimsical, original cape for her--it turned out AWESOME! We made it out of tulle, without any sewing. It is pretty simple, so we'll tell you how you can make your own tulle cape for Halloween! This is fantastic for Little Red Riding Hood, but would also be great for something like a little girl's superhero cape!

You just need some tulle (we got ours at Hobby Lobby on sale for 79 cents per yard), ribbon (we got ours at Hobby Lobby for about $1), some fabric scissors, and a hot glue gun!

Step 1: Find tulle in the color you want, and measure out enough for two to three layers of "capeness," depending on how many layers you want. Cami wanted two layers, and we probably used about three yards (she's 5' 8'').

Step 2: If you have extra tulle (we didn't have the exact right amount, we had extra!), then cut it down to the length you want.

Step 3: Find some ribbon in a color that is similar to or compliments the tulle, and wrap it around the shoulder/neck area (because the ribbon will go in between the two layers, and and then you can tie each end of the ribbon together to keep the cape on).

Step 4: Cut the ribbon to the length you want (depending on how big of a bow you want when you tie the ends together).

Step 4: Pin the ribbon and two layers together. The two layers should be folded over the ribbon (so the ribbon is sandwiched between the tulle).

Step 5: Hot glue the ribbon to the tulle. Carefully remove each pin one at a time as you go along, and press the tulle down HARD (without burning yourself) to hold it in place.

And that's it! You have yourself a fun, pretty, unique cape for your Halloween costume! Just throw it on and model it like a rock star...or maybe like Little Red Riding Hood, or a superhero, or whatever you will be for Halloween!!

Let us know what you think of this DIY cape tulle!! Thanks for reading!

  1. I'm impressed! I think I would burn myself with the hot glue. It looks darling. I've been playing with the idea of having my baby girl be Little Red Riding-hood for Halloween - I think it's so cute.
